The Tenants Deposit Scheme
This scheme, which became law in April 2007, is used to resolve deposit disputes between Tenants and Landlords. All deposits are held by a registered body and, in the event of a dispute, the Housing Ombudsman Service will adjudicate and aportion the deposit accordingly. The judgement will be based on the Tenancy Documents , of which the inventory and check out reports are crucial. A professional inventory prepared by East Devon Inventories, who are members of the Association of Independent Inventory Clerks and an uninvolved third party, will carry the greatest weight and ensure a fair outcome.
